New Chair of the Board, Shonaig Macpherson CBE, FRSE, Duniv.

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company, Edinburgh announce new Chair

The appointment follows the departure of Donald Emslie who stood down as Chair of The Lyceum having served the maximum term of eight years on the Board. During his tenure, the company has enabled 64 new theatre productions to be created, which have been seen by over 810,000 people not just in Edinburgh but in theatres across the UK.

Donald Emslie says:  “It has been a privilege to be associated with The Lyceum  and to have worked with such talented and motivated people. I would like to thank the staff and my colleagues on the Board for their support and dedication. Looking back over the last 8 years I am pleased that we have been able to deliver such high quality over an extensive range of work and I am positive I will continue to enjoy and appreciate great theatre produced by the team at the Lyceum for many years to come”.

Shonaig Macpherson is a respected figure in Scottish business, civic and cultural life. With her wealth of experience in leading organisations we are delighted that she has agreed to become Chair. Her extensive network in Scotland will be of great benefit to The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company.

Shonaig Macpherson says :
“I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of the Royal Lyceum Company and look forward to working with the Board, Mark Thomson, Alex McGowan and the staff to build on the excellent platform that Donald has created during his tenure as Chair.”

Mark Thomson and Alex McGowan, Joint Chief Executives of The Lyceum, say:
“Donald Emslie has been a fantastically supportive Chair of our Board and enthusiastic advocate for the work of the theatre. Despite the challenging economic environment in which we operate and unpredictable nature of being a producing theatre, Donald always ensured that artistic adventure  remained at the heart of the business and was never forced to compromise. He leaves the Lyceum in an enviable position and we very much look forward to working closely with Shonaig to build on these strong foundations.”
