As Scotland’s leading producing theatre company, the Lyceum is committed to staging world-class drama and developing talent. Our artistic aspirations are matched by our ability to stage work that is both accessible yet demanding. The ambitious vision of Mark Thomson, Artistic Director and Joint Chief Executive, is supported by record audience numbers, the growth of the Lyceum Youth Theatre (LYT) and Creative Learning programmes, and acclaim amongst the UK theatre community.
Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of people to our historic proscenium arch Victorian theatre, and thousands more participate in our visionary outreach and participation programme of classes, workshops and youth theatre activity. Over the course of a season we work with hundreds of actors, artists, scenic designers, theatres, students, schools and local community groups to inspire and educate people across Scotland and the UK.
We directly invest 72% of our funds in our programming, and whilst we generate a stable income generation through Box Office, bar sales and hire of our spaces and core funding support from Creative Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council, we must still find about £150,000 each year to support the costs of all we do.
"The Lyceum enriches lives and our culture. I feel passionately about engaging people with the performing arts, and will do all that I can to support the vital role The Lyceum plays in developing the talent of Scotland. We owe it to generations past, present and future to continue the great work that The Lyceum has been doing since 1883, and playing any part in supporting the development of the Company seems incredibly worthwhile".
