Community Outreach - Edinburgh Young Carers
The Lyceum’s partnership with Edinburgh Young Carers is now into its third year, thanks to a funding award from the Scottish Arts Council. This award means that the EYC drama group can continue to develop over the next year, providing a supportive environment for the participants to learn a range of skills.
Led by a specialist drama worker the weekly sessions are an opportunity to learn some fundamental drama skills such a voice and movement work & improvisation, whilst also learning new social skills through the group dynamic.
One of the aims is to explore issues important to the young people, and to encourage the realisation that theatre and drama can give voice and expression to those experiences. At the end of the year the group will gain experience of performing by sharing some of their work with friends and family.
One of the key features of the programme is that the young people experience theatre not only by performing themselves but by attending performances by the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company and seeing for themselves that theatre can be accessible to all.
