Schools Programme - Work Experience
We offer placements for school students at set times throughout the year. The next available slot for work experience is Autumn 2008.
working but having fun at the same time... "
The Lyceum Theatre is a very popular choice of work experience placement for creative young people considering a future career in the arts. During the 06/07 season we had twelve students visit us for work experience from across Edinburgh, Central Scotland and also from Berlin!
There will be opportunities to apply for work experience during Summer 2008. Work experience is based within the Education Team and is very varied, depending on the time of year and the work we are producing. A placement may involve administration, front of house, archiving, data entry, LyT and school drama workshops, watching main show rehearsals, marketing and programme design. We also take a tour of the theatre, rehearsal studios, admin offices, workshop and wardrobe and offer a chance to attend a performance of the current production.
We receive a large number of requests for this popular programme. Therefore, we ask that students wishing to apply for work placement send us a CV and covering letter, expressing their interest in working with the Lyceum. We then select the weeks that we can offer a meaningful placement and if necessary ask the students to come in and speak to us. We have found this process not only ensures that we give opportunities to those who will respond best to them but gives the students an experience as close as possible to that of applying for a job.
This is a very special opportunity for students with a keen interest in theatre and drama and every one of our placement students has gained a huge amount from their time with us.
