Work with us

Acting & Writing

We get a great deal of contact from people wishing to act on or write for the Lyceum stage and we’re more than flattered by the eagerness to be involved with our work. The information below will hopefully help anyone in this situation to give themselves the best chance.

Acting
The Lyceum is a professional theatre company and all of our casting is done via agencies, so we do not hold open auditions.

If you are (or want to become) an actor and wish to perform at the Lyceum, our best advice is to get yourself a good agent and get them to talk you up in all the usual places. Good luck!

Writing
As with would-be actors, we get a lot of correspondence from authors who have written a play and who (understandably) wish to see it performed. In some cases we’ve even had entire plays submitted to us in the body of an email! Please note that we do not accept unsolicited plays.

Again, there are better and more effective ways of getting your work seen by someone in a position to assist you - we recommend contacting Playwrights' Studio Scotland, a body focused on helping theatre writers to develop their work and get it to the stage. In particular a good bet is to try their Fuse initiative, a scheme designed to put new plays in front of the artistic directors at the country’s top theatre companies.
