LyT Shows and Projects - Into the Woods
For the Summer on Stage 2007 project, the Lyceum Youth Theatre team, led a group of young people aged from 14 to 21 through the process of rehearsing, producing and finally performing a show of their own.
Over the three weeks of the project, these young people put together their production of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods (Junior), finally presenting it publically on two evenings in mid-July.
Into the Woods (Junior)
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
‘Once upon a time’ are the familiar words that open Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's multi award-winning musical Into the Woods.
This thought provoking musical comedy cleverly intertwines the stories and characters of several of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales including: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk, with a new story of a childless Baker and his Wife. Like us, they all have wishes to fulfill, but to achieve their ‘happy ever after' they must go Into the Woods.
A lively, comical and yet sometimes dark tale, written by arguably one of the finest musical storytellers of our time.
